Extra! Extra! Read all about it! On Hambo #59

On the Hambo Hoedown Challenge #59 this week, they are focusing on the digi "PAPER BOY - digital image by Hambo Stamps" AND the added twist that you had to have a hidden pocket.  The wheels started turning and I thought it would be a great way to combine this challenge and the Scrapbook Place Blog  DT monthly challenge to "go green" with our projects.  To make a card, layout or altered art, remembering to reuse, recycle or upcycle in the crafting of our creation.  This is how I made this unique card:

  1. I took a white paper sack I had around to make into a paper bag book, folded it so the bottom is now where the newsboy is, and trimmed the bag so it was even with the edge of the card. I glued torn and crumpled newspaper in a collage fashion on the face-grunged up the edges with Colorbok chalk ink.
  1. This fold-over made #1 hidden pocket to the left. I put a red die cut label on the edge saying "lift", which exposes the pocket trimmed with colored buttons and a sentiment.

  1. Moving on to the inside, I once again used a collage of newspaper to cover the bag, added another one of the sentiments included on the Paper Boy image set-mounted to the remainder of the red label die cut, added red pennant banners made out of old paper scraps and strung them on brown baker's twine left over from another project, as was the Kraft paper journaling inserts.  I glued down Heavy Rubber Band pieces from my stash at work with ribbon adhesive from Crop & Glue instead of using twine or ribbon.  I'm kind-of proud of that idea!

  1. The #2 hidden pocket was created by using a bag--to the right now is what used to be the top of the bag.  I slipped 2 label die cuts into the pocket and instead of ribbon tabs to pull them out, used smaller rubber bands looped through 2 holes in the label.  They have cute boy sentiments stamped on them.
The Challenges I would like to enter this card in are:

  4. I just love this card. The paper boy image is just great with all the extra details. I love the sentiment as well.

I am so happy to see so much of a focus on using up and recycling. I am certainly doing more of this as well but let me just say its very difficult to stay away from the craft shops.

Thanks so much for sharing your card at Anything goes, Just keep on creating. I hope you will continue to play along :)

Hope you have had a lovely Easter :)

    1. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement! Once I made the commitment, the ideas just kept coming but it was a struggle at first! I too love the shops, looking for that newest item so it was a great exercise to not do that. Hope to be back for many more challenges. Happy Easter too!
